Why I Became a Wealth Strategy Advisor
By Matthew Peck, CFP®
Financial planning is one of the world’s most misunderstood professions. You may be noticing an increase in advertising of various “Big Box” financial firms suggesting that they do “financial planning,” but then go on to discuss the financial plan as a mere review of one’s investment holdings or insurance coverage that was previously sold to them, as if these are synonymous. These areas are certainly a part of financial planning, but to refer to any of these parts as if they are the whole is both incorrect and misleading.
Financial planning involves looking at a client’s entire financial picture and advising them on how to achieve their short-term, mid-term, and long-term financial goals. It is a collaborative process that helps maximize a client’s potential for meeting life goals through financial advice that integrates relevant elements of the client’s personal and financial circumstances. From planning for retirement to saving for education to effectively optimizing taxes and insurance over time, financial planners should be developing valuable relationships with their clients to provide them with confidence today and security in the future.
I became a Wealth Strategy Advisor and a Certified Financial Planner™ to help individuals and families navigate all areas of their financial lives in a way that will get them to achieve their life goals and objectives. I chose to work for Anderson Financial Strategies, a Fee-Only advisory firm, to reduce conflicting interests with clients and to ensure that my clients’ needs always come first.
Building My Career
Uniquely , I am an early career changer in my current profession. I started my career as an accounting intern in 2014 with an industrial chemical supply chain company in Wisconsin. I later received a full-time job offer with the same company upon my college graduation in 2015. For the next three years, I worked as a Staff Accountant in a couple of different industries before chasing my passion of becoming a Wealth Strategy Advisor.
As a corporate accountant and financial professional, I always had a love of numbers. I have always had an analytical approach to life but knew something was missing in my career. I knew I had a passion for helping others through education and mentorship, and I realized I could have it all with a career as a Wealth Strategy Advisor.
My Career Today
With 5 years of experience with investment services and financial planning, I am currently a Wealth Strategy Advisor at Anderson Financial Strategies, supporting private wealth clients with an array of wealth strategies designed to simplify all their financial complexities. I also manage the 401(k) participant educational services within our Corporate Retirement Plans division.
As a CFP® Professional, I spend my days helping private wealth clients navigate their financial lives in a clear and concise manner that directly aligns with the fiduciary standard. I am enthusiastic about financial education and work hard to make sure that each private wealth client and employee 401(k) participant of the plan sponsors I work with has the information and resources to make financial decisions that will benefit their future.
