Retirement is arguably one of life’s most significant milestones. But with so many financial priorities competing for your attention, it can be challenging to save enough to meet your goals. I became a retirement plan advisor because I believe that everyone, at every income level, should have the opportunity to experience a comfortable retirement. And with the right tools and support, it’s possible.
Building My Career
That’s the reason why I do what I do, but there’s more to the story of how I got here. After graduating from Wright State University with a degree in Management Information Systems, I started working for a private money management firm. I spent multiple decades immersed in the administration and record-keeping side of the retirement plan business. As the 401(k) landscape changed and participant-directed plans became popular, I found myself working with financial advisors, helping them with the administrative side of their clients’ plans.
It didn’t take long before I saw a glaring need. Many advisors are incredibly skilled and knowledgeable in what they do, but retirement plans are complex, and optimizing this savings vehicle to fund a comfortable retirement requires a specialized touch from someone who understands all aspects of 401(k)s.
I decided to fill that role, making it the sole focus of what I do, transitioning from retirement plan administration to financial advising and fiduciary-level services entirely for plan sponsors.
My Career Today
Now, with over 30 years of experience, I am the Director of Retirement Plans at Anderson Financial Strategies, supporting plan sponsors as they manage their plans and equip their employees to get the most out of their retirement plans.
As an Accredited Investment Fiduciary® advisor, I spend my days helping my clients reduce fiduciary liability by serving in a fiduciary capacity on the plan’s investment committee and acting as the point person for all the moving pieces of their plan. I am passionate about financial education and work hard to make sure that each employee participant of the plan sponsors I work with has the information and resources to make investment decisions that will benefit their future.
The Best Part
I’ve had the privilege of seeing people’s retirement dreams become a reality countless times in my career because of the guidance I provide. It’s incredibly fulfilling to see a plan come together and make an impact on both the company and the plan participants. My services and expertise simultaneously relieve a heavy burden from plan sponsors and give their employees the confidence to look to their future with excitement.

About Tim
Tim began his financial career in 1987, working for a private money management firm in Downtown Dayton. Over the years, his role moved into the plan administration and compliance side of qualified retirement plans. As participant-directed 401(k) plans became more prevalent, he found himself working with a large number of financial advisors, assisting them with the administration and record-keeping of their clients’ plans. It became obvious to Tim that there was a need for a financial advisor who would focus solely on 401(k) plans. So, at the end of 2014, he decided to move over to the financial advising side of qualified retirement plans and provide fiduciary-level services to plan sponsors.
Tim is now an independent fiduciary advisor exclusively serving retirement plan clients. He develops strategies that optimize retirement plans and can help reduce fiduciary liability by serving in a fiduciary capacity on the plan’s investment committee. In addition, he has a passion for financial education and works very hard to ensure that each 401(k) plan participant gets the information and education they need to make sound investment decisions.
On a personal note, Tim and his wife, Susan, reside in Troy, Ohio, with their dog Chester. They have three grown children. In their spare time, they love to ride bikes and travel around the country in their RV.
